While the kitchen may be the busiest room in the household, the bedroom is where we spend the most time looking at the walls. Whether we’re in bed reading a book, lazing about on a Sunday morning, or trying to fall asleep after a long day, we want our bedrooms to be calming. But, when painting a bedroom, how can you be certain that you’re achieving that? What are the best ways to take the concept you have in your head and translate it onto the walls of your home? In today’s post, we’re going to discuss three tips that will get you better results when painting your bedroom.
1. Plan your bedroom painting
As with all things, proper planning goes a long way when painting a bedroom. Start by picturing the end result. What is the general vibe? Is it dark? Light? Are all of your walls the same color? What colors are used? Creating a short, written plan can help you better execute once you start painting. And, don’t just focus on the walls, either! There are a lot of surfaces in your bedroom that may need attention, including the ceiling, trim, and baseboards.
2. Gather your tools
Now that you have a plan, look over what you’ve written down and work out what tools you’re going to need. The most common tools, of course, are paint brushes, drop cloths, rollers, painter’s tape, and paint trays. Before you start painting your bedroom, it’s also a good time to consider whether you’re going to need help. If this isn’t a one-man job, you may want to reach out to friends, family, or professionals to ensure that you’ve got enough hands to complete the project.
3. Prep the area
With all your tools in place, it’s time to start prepping the area. Be sure to cover furniture, appliances, and decor with drop cloths, as you don’t want to inadvertently paint them. Then, use painter’s tape to create clean lines between surfaces that will and will not be painted. You’ll want to protect trim, outlets, switches, light fixtures, and other non-removable items. Finally, do a quick sweep to check for damaged areas. If you need to do any small repairs, now’s the time to do them.
