1. Preparing the surface
As with any painting project, proper surface preparation is essential. During this step, you’ll want to thoroughly clean the exterior of your home. While you can do this with a scrub brush and cleaner, it’s much easier to use a pressure washer. After you’ve cleaned the surface, you’ll want to allow it to dry completely. Once dry, perform a thorough inspection of the exterior, looking for signs of damage: rotting wood, insect infestations, or loose sections.
2. Applying the primer
When painting aluminum siding and vinyl siding, you’ll want to use a primer on any bare aluminum or certain vinyl sidings. Since most of the surfaces you’ll be painting are glossy or slick, it’s more difficult for paint to adhere. Applying a coat of primer will help to ensure a smooth, even finish and – more importantly – can help to hide stains or discoloration that have been caused by damage or weather.
3. Choose your paint

The darker the color can result in fading over time on certain areas that may be hit by the sun more than others. For vinyl siding, its best to talk with a professional in regards to colors. Product manufacturers have created vinyl safe color formulas that can work with most applications that you can review prior to selecting a color.
